Gyula Fürjes

Faces furrowed by time, worry and emotions. Countenances you cannot escape. The magic of tales: it is the atmosphere of a different world, however very real, almost palpable, and suggestive in a spellbinding way, surpassing the dreams of a world of fantasy.
The artist does not talk much about his paintings. Otherwise he is pleased to communicate about the small and big things of the world. His belief is that a good painting shall be effective without comments. Without telling the title and the story the painting shall grasp the observer, make him think, and drag him along. If the painting is not in position to do this, then it is a failure.
Some may find it a little bit strange some others are clearly fascinated by this collection. Whatever the effect, the suggestive force cannot be denied. We can see faces reflecting soul, souls that are clarified, transfigured after misery, maybe also a little bit grotesque, but beautiful souls. Beauty on the paintings elevates the figures from the world of dreams to the level of reality. The individually sophisticated, extremely fine technique in itself communicates sensitivity.
The painting style and method of Gyula Fürjes took shape through the study of the works of great masters. The world of the artist emerged in the course of copying paintings being exhibited in museums, studying albums, and painting technique experiments. The spiritual contents of this world are characterized by a human orientated philosophical attitude.
The artist respects the art of Rembradt, Leonardo, Károly Markó Senior, Mihály Munkácsy and the life achievement of Endre Szász alike.
